What versions of Crystal Reports does Report Analyzer support?
Report Analyzer can read reports created with versions 8.0 to version XI R2 plus 7.5 for Seagate Info Report Designer.
Does Report Analyzer require a version of Crystal Reports to run?
Yes, Report Analyzer requires the Crystal Reports XI runtime files. The run time files can be downloaded from our site. They are installed using Windows Installer Merge Modules developed by Business Objects, ensuring any existing files are not replaced during installation.
If you have a copy of Crystal Reports XI Developer or Advanced editions installed, you can choose not to install the Crystal Reports runtime files to reduce installation time.
The Crystal XI runtime files support side-by-side installation for workstations with a prior version of Crystal Reports already installed.
If I have an older version of Report Analyzer, can I use the same database with Report Analyzer 5.0?
No, earlier versions of Report Analyzer used an access database. Report Analyzer now uses a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database to store the analysis and documentation for your Crystal Reports. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is installed when you install Report Analyzer.
Can documentation be shared on a network?
Yes. To centralize the storage of documentation, Report Analyzer can connect to a remote SQL Server. To install the documentation database on the remote server, the database file RA50_Data.MDF must be attached to the remote Server by the database administrator.
The RA50_Data.MDF file can be found in the installation directory of Report Analyzer, and is freely distributable to another computer.
Can I document reports used by Seagate Info or Crystal Enterprise?
Report Analyzer supports direct connections to the Enterprise APS servers to document these environments. However, you must already have an Enterprise License to query the folder list.
Report Analyzer cannot distribute the Enterprise run time required files, so this feature requires a copy of Crystal Reports Developer Edition 8.5 (minimum) to be installed on the computer running Report Analyzer.
Seagate Info APS servers can be documented by opening the windows folder on the APS servers and selecting your reports.
Can Report Analyzer document the SQL settings in my reports?
Yes, Report Analyzer can document the SQL settings for a report. The SQL can only be analyzed if Report Analyzer can connect to the database(s) targeted by the report SQL.
For Microsoft Access databases, usually no additional configuration in Report Analyzer is required. However, for some databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle, the server name and login credentials may need to be provided.
If the Crystal Report you are analyzing requires a specific ODBC/OLEDB (or other environment setting) to connect to the database, then the same connection must be configured on the machine running Report Analyzer. You also need to make sure that you set the ‘Connect to Datasource’ option to True.
Is there a limit to the number of reports Report Analyzer can document?
Report Analyzer has been tested with over a thousand reports in the documentation database.
Can you make changes to the Report's design in Report Analyzer?
No. Report Analyzer only has read access to the report files. Once the report has been analyzed, you can however, right-click on the report name and open the report in the Report Designer.
How is Report Analyzer Licensed?
Report Analyzer is licensed on a per-machine basis. Each user who installs the program must own a user license.
Can I export the documentation from Report Analyzer?
Yes, you can export the documentation from Report Analyzer. All the export formats that are available in Crystal Reports are also available in Report Analyzer.
In addition, Report Analyzer can generate HTML documentation for your Crystal Reports. This powerful feature can generate an entire web site with links to all of your reports, their layouts (profiled as image files), and all related content using HTML tables. This provides efficient and up-to-date documentation for report designers, project managers and customers.
